Delete your Sous Chef account and data
You can delete your account on the website, in the app, or by contacting us. You do not need to install the app to make a request.
Deleting your account applies to Sous Chef on Android, iOS, and the web. It is permanent and cannot be undone.
Delete your account on the website
- Open your account settings and sign in with the account you want to delete.
- Scroll to Delete Account.
- Select Delete My Account and confirm.
In the Sous Chef app, open Settings, select Delete account, and confirm. Deleting Sous Chef does not delete your Google or Apple account.
Request deletion by email
If you cannot sign in, or would like help deleting your account and associated data, email [email protected] with the subject Sous Chef account deletion request.
Include the email address associated with your Sous Chef account. If possible, send the request from that address. We may need to verify that the account belongs to you before deleting it. Never send your password or a sign-in code.
We will respond with any verification steps and the status of your request. Emailing a request does not immediately delete your account.
What account deletion removes
Once account deletion succeeds, we remove your account and profile, sign-in credentials and linked sign-in identities, registered devices, recipes you own (including their ingredients, instructions, notes, and tags), personal lists, feedback, friendships, and invitations you sent from the application's active database.
Your profile photo and images attached to your recipes are queued for deletion from our image storage. Failed storage deletions require retries, so removal from storage may finish later than removal of the account.
Other people's independently saved recipe copies and shared household records can remain in their accounts. Deleting your account removes your membership; a household with other members can continue to exist.
Data that may remain and retention periods
- Temporary import files: newly uploaded source photos are scheduled for cleanup after 24 hours and temporary generated images after 25 hours. Failures can delay or prevent that cleanup; these schedules are not guarantees that every copy has been erased.
- Recoverable storage copies: our Google Cloud storage retains soft-deleted objects for a further seven days after an object is deleted.
- Usage-limit records: limited records of service usage may remain after account deletion to prevent abuse. Scheduled cleanup retains seven complete UTC days plus the current day; an outage or backlog can extend this.
- Import history and older processing files: some import records remain after their account association is removed. Older source files and processing caches are not all removed automatically by account deletion and do not currently have a fixed automatic deletion period.
- Logs, analytics, diagnostics, and backups: historical records held by us or our service providers are not all removed automatically when an account is deleted. Retention varies by system; we have not yet established a single verified deletion deadline for these records.
For help removing remaining data, use the email request above and describe the data concerned. We will review the request and explain any data that must be retained and why. Account deletion does not currently guarantee immediate erasure of all historical copies.
Delete data while keeping your account
You can delete a recipe you own using its Delete action and keep your Sous Chef account. You can also edit or remove optional profile information in your account settings.
To request deletion of other data without closing your account, email [email protected] with the subject Sous Chef data deletion request. Include your account email, specify the data you want deleted, and state that you want to keep your account. The verification and retention limitations above also apply.
